SUMMER ART CLASSES

All classes will be held at FACT ARTbarn, 1516 Pacheco Street. Tuition is $225 per week, which covers all art materials, a healthy snack, and a sketchbook for each participant. Scholarships are available. Early bird registration of $205 through May 28.

Sculpt It! with FACT Instructor Megan Bersett
June 7-11, 8:30am-12pm
Ages 5-7

Get messy get creative, as you work with a variety of materials to create three-dimensional art in clay, paper-maché, wire, assemblage, and other mediums.

Field trip: New Mexico Museum of Art to view Art on the Edge and the Sculpture Garden


All About Me: Self Portraits in Various Mediums with FACT Instructor Robin Samadhi
June 14-18, 1:30pm-5pm
Ages 8-10

Work with a variety of mediums: painting, sculpture, collage & printmaking, to create unique self portraits and convey the different aspects of you!

Field Trip: Wednesday, June 16. Tibetan Project on Canyon Road. Peace flag project-photo transfer.


Printmaking: Monotypes, Collagraphs & Relief with FACT Instructor Tara Santini
June 21-25, 1:30pm-5pm
Ages 11-14

Learn about the history of this art form, as well as create individual and mass prints.

Field Trip: Tour of local artist Ron Pokrasso's printmaking studio on Thursday, June 24th at 2:30pm.


Book Art! Artistic Inspiration from Children's Books with FACT Instructor Megan Bersett
June 28-July 2, 8:30am-12pm
Ages 5-7

Ignite artistic imaginations through daily reading of different stories related to specific artists and art mediums. Then we will explore how books are used in the artistic process through various projects.
Example: Sandy's Circus, about Alexander Calder. We will make sculptures out of wire and mixed media using a circus theme inspired by the book.

Field Trip: Santa Fe Public Library-Downtown and nearby park.


Major Art Movements: Fauvism, Cubism, Pop Art, and Surrealism with FACT Instructor Shiela Cantrell
July 12-16, 1:30pm-5pm
Ages 8-10

Delve into art history as you create your own artwork focusing on abstract expressionism, elements of design, directional movement, landscape and sculpture.

Field Trip: Georgia O'Keeffe Museum


Illustration: Graphic Novels and Comic Art with FACT Instructor Melinda Baker
July 19-23, 1:30pm-5pm
Ages 11-14

Express your story through classes designed to give a sampling of illustration techniques. Develop awareness in volume and shading, hatching, color mixing, and printmaking.

Crazy Collage! with FACT Instructor Tara Santini
July 26-30, 8:30am-12pm
Ages 5-7

Explore layering and color as you use a variety of materials including paper, fabric, found objects, and recyclables to make unique self and animal portraits, landscapes, and diptychs.

Field Trip: Tour of a local collage artist's studio then travel to Railyard Park for on-site rubbings of urban and natural features for a collage project.


My World: Place and Identity with FACT Instructor Shiela Cantrell
Aug.2-6, 1:30pm-5pm
Ages 8-10

Create a variety of art that addresses the question: "How can I be creative by observing and exploring my place in the world"? This includes water color resist paintings, mandalas, tin accordion books, plaster relief, and clay sculptures.

Defining Space: Architecture & Design with FACT Instructor Tara Santini
Aug. 9-13, 1:30pm-5pm
Ages 11-14

Transform ideas of creative spaces into 2-D and 3-D artwork through floor plans, sculpture, and design.

Field Trip: Tour of "Synergy House," an eco-building project created by Jen & Diego Mulligan, presenter of KSFR's Journey Home Radio Show.

FACT turns 20
In honor of this landmark birthday, FACT will open its ARTbarn Community Studio throughout the year for monthly receptions and exhibitions of artwork by FACT alumni and current art instructors.

Ongoing classes through FACT's Community Based Programs

Adelante's Juntos los Jueves Program

Every Thursday at Cesar Chavez Elementary School FACT partners with the Santa Fe Public School's Adelante program for homeless families to provide an hour long art making class from 6 to 7pm.

Youth with Promise at El Museo Cultural

In collaboration with Outside In, FACT offers visual art workshops for teens on Saturdays at El Museo Cultural from 12:30-2pm. Workshops are free and open to teens ages 13-18. Community service credits are available for those who attend.
